JESPER B. Monberg will make a long-awaited comeback in the Peterborough squad in the seasonal opener.
The Denmark international has been drafted into the Readypower Panthers line-up for Monday’s 40th Anniversary Challenge.
Monberg hasn’t raced for Peterborough since 2006 and hasn’t ridden regularly in the Elite League since a stint at Wolverhampton in 2008.
He was one rider that the Panthers considered while re-building this year’s squad but he was eventually ruled out because of his high average.
Peterborough had originally included him in last year’s side but the move fell through in a dispute over his average and he’d been sidelined ever since.
He is in Britain this week with Team Denmark practising at Stoke and jumped at the chance of slipping into a Panthers’ race-jacket again.
He will come into the side take on a world select, headed by current number one Jason Crump and his immediate predecessor Nicki Pedersen.
It’s a sizzling start to Peterborough’s new season and to make sure Monday’s opener starts with a big bang there will be a huge firework display at the end of the racing.
Jesper replaces Karol Zabik who is undergoing medical tests in his native Poland as he recovers from a head injury, which cut short his 2009 campaign.
Monday’s meeting starts at 7.30 pm.
